What the Open Workflow Actually Costs
Super 8 film, processing, and scanning are three separate services. Understanding the cost of each one helps you make a better decision, regardless of where you buy.
Film from askem8 is $39.99 per cartridge. Processing and a 2K scan from a dedicated motion picture lab — such as Cinelab in Massachusetts or Negativeland in New York — typically runs $45–$55. Total cost for film, processing, and a 2K LOG scan with a graded file: approximately $85–$95.
Some U.S. sellers offer bundled develop-and-scan packages alongside film. These can be convenient, but it is worth reading the terms carefully. Some bundles include a service expiration clause — meaning the processing service becomes void if you do not send your film within a set window after purchase. If you shoot on your own timeline, that is worth knowing before you commit.
With the open workflow, there is no expiration. You buy the film, shoot it when you are ready, and choose the lab and scan resolution that fits your project.

The open workflow costs less and delivers more. Film from askem8 at $39.99 plus processing and a 2K scan from Cinelab or Negativeland totals approximately $85–$95. A comparable bundled package — film plus a develop-and-scan service — typically costs $108.00 or more for HD-resolution output. The open workflow saves $13–$24 per roll and delivers 2K LOG and graded files instead of a single HD file.
One thing to check before buying a bundle: Some develop and scan packages sold by U.S. retailers include a service expiration clause — meaning the service becomes void if you do not send your film within 60 days of purchase. If you shoot on your own timeline, that is a real risk. With the open workflow, there is no expiration. You buy the film, shoot it when you are ready, and send it to the lab on your schedule.
Where to Process and Scan Your Super 8 Film
Askem8 sells the film. Processing and scanning are handled separately through a motion picture lab of your choice. We recommend two labs based on your location.

Best fit: nationwide mail-in processing, indie projects, and shooters comparing 2K or 4K scan options.

A New York based motion picture lab offering Super 8 processing and scanning for color negative and black and white film.

Why Buy from Askem8
Real Shooting Experience
We shoot Wolfen Films at live weddings. The footage is on this page. That is the standard we hold the film to. We are not a distributor that lists products and waits. We are a working film studio that uses what we sell.
Open Workflow
We recommend Cinelab and Negativeland because they deliver better scans at lower cost than closed bundles. We do not process film ourselves. We have no financial relationship with either lab. We recommend them because they are the best options for most U.S. shooters.
Genuine Film Stock
Wolfen is made by FilmoTec GmbH in Germany and distributed by Wittner Cinetec. It is the same manufacturer that has supplied European film labs and cinematographers for decades. This is not a repackaged or rebranded stock. It is original motion picture film available in the U.S. through a dedicated storefront focused on education, open workflow, and real world Super 8 results.
Transparent Pricing
Every cart is $39.99. No tiers. No bundles. No upsells at checkout. The cost comparison on this page shows exactly what the full workflow costs. There are no surprises.
Important Information Before You Order
Wolfen Super 8 film cartridges are motion picture film stocks manufactured in Germany by FilmoTec GmbH. They are compatible with all Super 8 cameras.
Film must be processed by a motion picture lab. Film must be sent to a motion picture lab after shooting. Askem8 does not process film. We recommend Cinelab in Massachusetts or Negativeland in New York. Links and pricing are listed in the processing section above.
If you are traveling with exposed film, request hand inspection at airport security. CT scanners now common at U.S. airports can damage unexposed and exposed film. Inform the TSA officer that you are carrying unprocessed photographic film and request a hand check.
Film is a perishable product. Store unexposed film in a cool, dry location away from heat and humidity. Refrigeration is recommended for long-term storage. Allow refrigerated film to return to room temperature before loading into your camera.
